On March 17, COSMOS hosted its first Customer Open Day at the Shanghai Personal Care Application Center, located in Caohejing Technology Green Oasis. Industry partners gathered for an afternoon of exploration—six sessions, four hours, and firsthand access to the lab, the scientists, and the science behind the solutions.

True to Our Roots, Grounded in Value

Salem Cao, Vice President of COSMOS, opened the afternoon: "For more than two decades, our purpose has remained constant—to craft products with dedication and to serve with sincerity in formulation applications, working alongside our customers to Beautify & Brighten Lives." "Creating value for customers" is the philosophy COSMOS has always upheld. Looking ahead, he added, "We will continue to leverage our strengths in synthesis and application to solve real problems—partnering with clients from concept to launch, turning ideas into competitive products."

Closer to the Customer

Jiantong Li, Director of the Application Center, laid out the COSMOS R&D ecosystem:

• Nanjing Research Institute: innovation in raw material development

• Shanghai Application Center: applied research and technical service

• Process Scale-up Workshop at our Production Base: scale‑up and industrial validation of innovative raw materials

These three pillars work in close synergy—and Shanghai is the last stop before the customer. "When formulators face challenges, we dig into the root cause together. When efficacy needs proof, we open the lab and let the data speak." As one scientist put it: "Our job is to make raw materials truly work in our customers' hands."

Science Meets Complexity

There was no formal stage. Guests walked the lab floor, talking directly with the scientists running the instruments. They watched ATLAS weatherometers test sunscreen stability. They saw AI‑driven dynamic testers simulate the entire shampoo process—quantifying physical performance at each stage. They observed Langmuir interfacial rheology reveal how surfactants arrange themselves at molecular level, offering micro‑scale insight into macro‑scale stability. Guests and COSMOS R&D staff engaged in deep discussions—from instrument operation to result application, from formulation development to stability analysis.

Efficacy, Made Visible

The highlight: a live half‑head salon test. A volunteer used different formulations on each side of her scalp while researchers tracked foam, combing resistance, and rinse feel in real time—every data point displayed as it happened. It was sensory testing in action. The Center's capabilities span in vitro, in vivo, and sensory evalsuation—from SPF/PA to stratum corneum hydration, from dynamic viscosity testing to hair tress assessment. It demonstrates the value a leading personal care raw material supplier can—and should—deliver to its customers.

Closer Connections

Throughout the afternoon, conversations ranged from formulation stability to regulatory shifts to emerging ingredients. Each question, each answer brought the two sides of the table closer. A long‑time client put it simply: "It used to be 'you sell, we buy.' Today felt more like 'we solve this together.'"
